How To Put A Double Hung Window Back In Place After Cleaning

If you are in the middle of spring-cleaning, don't forget about your windows. One of the biggest advantages of double-hung windows is that you don't have to get on a ladder to clean them. You can remove the window panes and clean them. The process can seem complicated, but reading this article will help you know what to do.

Removing Double-Hung Window

It is relatively simple to remove a double-hung window. You need to grab a hold of the window with both hands at the top of the glass. Then, you need to tilt the window in towards your body and the house. As you tilt the window inward, it should slide out of place. You may want to have someone help you hold the window as it slides out of place.

It is more difficult to get the first pane out. Once you have the first pane out, it is even easier to remove the second window pane. Once again, you'll want to get a good grip on the window and pull it towards you. The window should slip out of its tracks and into your hands.

Re-Hanging The Windows

After you have cleaned both sides of each window pane and dried the window panes thoroughly, it is time to put them back into place. It is really just as simple to put the windows back in place as it was to take them out in the first place.

You'll want to start with the upper window pane. You'll want to tilt it and line it up with the window tracks on the side of your window. Once you have the window in line with the tracks, slowly tilt it back into place. The window should slide onto the track and back up. Make sure you have the upper window pane raised to the top.

Next, take the lower window pane and line it up with the window tracks. This time, the window should be tilted towards you. Once the window is lined up with the tracks, continue to tilt it into place. You should hear a snapping sound when the window is back in place.

To test the window, close the lower pane and try to lock the window. The window should lock easily. If the window does not lock easily, take out the lower window pane and insert it again. Make sure you hear a "snap" sound as you slide the window into place. Try the lock again.

As you can see, it is easy and simple to slide a double-hung window out, clean it, and put it back in place. Make some time tonight or this weekend to clean your dough-hung windows.
